OCCIware Strategic Orientation Committee

The Strategic Orientation Committee is a group of international scientific and industrial experts. The Committee's main mission is to garantee the compliance of the project orientations with the industrial use of cloud computing and evolution of the state-of-the-art in this domain.

François Bancilhon

Dr. François Bancilhon is the Co-founder at UCOPIA Communications S.A. He also serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Mandrake Soft. Dr. Bancilhon was the Founder of O2 Technology and served as its Chief Executive Officer and President until O2 Technology was acquired by US based Unidata Inc. He served as a Scientist at INRIA and was a Professor at Paris XI University. He is the Chairman of the board at UCOPIA Communications S.A. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Xyleme Inc. He also is a Member of the Advisory Board at UCOPIA Communications SA. He serves on the Strategic Orientation Committee at UFG-Siparex. Dr. Bancilhon is a Board Member at Arioso. Dr. Bancilhon holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Texas, Austin.


Roberto Di Cosmo

Roberto Di Cosmo is a computer scientist and director of IRILL, the Innovation and research initiative for free software (French: Initiative pour la Recherche et l'Innovation sur le Logiciel Libre). He graduated from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and has a PhD from the University of Pisa, before becoming tenured professor at the École normale supérieure in Paris,[1] then professor at the Paris 7 University. Di Cosmo was an early member of the AFUL, association of the French community of Linux and Free Software users, he's also known for his support in the Open Source Software movement.


Rajkumar Buyya

Dr. Rajkumar Buyya is a Fellow of IEEE, Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council, and Director of the Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Laboratory at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is also serving as the founding CEO of Manjrasoft, a spin-off company of the University, commercializing its innovations in Cloud Computing. He has authored over 450 publications and five text books including "Mastering Cloud Computing"
published by McGraw Hill and Elsevier/Morgan Kaufmann, 2013 for Indian and international markets respectively. He also edited several books including "Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms" (Wiley Press, USA, Feb 2011).
He is one of the highly cited authors in computer science and software engineering worldwide (h-index=87, g-index=176, 38000+ citations).   Microsoft Academic Search Index ranked Dr. Buyya as the world's top author in distributed and parallel computing between 2007 and 2012.

Software technologies for Grid and Cloud computing developed under Dr. Buyya's leadership have gained rapid acceptance and are in use at several academic institutions and commercial enterprises in 40 countries around the world. Dr.  Buyya has led the establishment and development of key community activities, including serving as foundation Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing and five IEEE/ACM conferences. These contributions and international research leadership of Dr. Buyya are recognized through the award of "2009 IEEE TCSC Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing" from the IEEE Computer Society TCSC. Aneka Cloud technology developed under his leadership has received "2010 Frost & Sullivan New Product Innovation Award" and recently Manjrasoft has been recognised as one of the Top 20 Cloud Computing companies by the Silicon Review Magazine. He is currently serving as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Software: Practice and Experience, which was established 40+ years ago. 


Schahram Dustdar

Schahram Dustdar is Full Professor of Computer Science (Informatics) with a focus on Internet Technologies heading the Distributed Systems Group at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Vienna). From 2004-2010 he was Honorary Professor of Information Systems at the Department of Computing Science at the University of Groningen (RuG), The Netherlands. He is a member of the Academia Europaea: The Academy of Europe, Informatics Section (since 2013) and an IEEE Senior Member (2009). He is recipient of the ACM Distinguished Scientist award (2009) and the IBM Faculty Award (2012). He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, ACM Transactions on the Web, and ACM Transactions on Internet Technology and on the editorial board of IEEE Internet Computing. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Computing (an SCI-ranked journal of Springer).


Jean-Pierre Laisné

CEO & Founder of CloudOrbit Jean-Pierre LAISNE has over 30 years of experience in IT. Leader of the CompatibleOne project, he was Bull open source strategy for 10 years. Previously founder of Linbox, LAISNE is well known for his professional open source activism. With OW2 Open Source Cloudware inititiave and the CompatibleOne project, he demonstrates the qualities of open source when it comes to innovate in cloud computing.


Frank Leymann

 Frank Leymann is a full professor of computer science and director of the Institute of Architecture of Application Systems at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. His research interests include service oriented computing and middleware, workflow- and business process management, Cloud Computing, transaction processing, integration technology, and architecture patterns. Before accepting his professor position he worked for two decades for IBM Software Group building database and middleware products: He built tools supporting conceptual and physical database design for DB2; built performance prediction and monitoring tools for an object database system; was co-architect of a repository system; built both, a universal relation system as well as a complex object database system on top of DB2; and was co-architect of the MQSeries family. In parallel to that, Frank worked continuously since the late eighties on workflow technology and became the father of IBM's workflow product set. As an IBM Distinguished Engineer and elected member of the IBM Academy of Technology he contributed to the architecture and strategy of IBM's entire middleware stack as well as IBM's On Demand Computing strategy. From 2000 on, Frank worked as co-architect of the Web Service stack. He is co-author of many Web Service specifications, including WSFL, WS-Addressing, WS-Metadata Exchange, WS-Business Agreement, the WS-Resource Framework set of specifications, WS-HumanTask and BPEL4People; together with Satish Thatte, he was the driving force behind BPEL4WS. Also, he is co-author of BPMN 2.0 and TOSCA.


Ignacio Llorente

Dr. Llorente is co-founder and Director of OpenNebula. He is an entrepreneur and researcher in the field of cloud and distributed computing, having managed several international projects and initiatives on Cloud Computing, and authored many articles in the leading journals and proceedings books. Dr. Llorente has held several appointments as independent expert and consultant for the European Commission and several companies and national governments. He has given many keynotes and invited talks in the main international events in cloud computing, and has served on several Groups of Experts on Cloud Computing convened by international organizations, such as the European Commission and the World Economic Forum. Dr. Llorente is an IEEE Senior Member, holds a Ph.D in Computer Science (UCM) and an Executive MBA (IE Business School), and is a Full Professor (Catedratico) and the Head of the Distributed Systems Architecture Group at UCM.


Thijs Metsch

Founder and chair of OCCI; Working for Sun, Platform, an IBM Company Intel on Data Center Software, HPC, Clouds, Grids and Virtualization; optimizes Software Engineering processes. 


Michael P. Papazoglou

Michael P. Papazoglou holds the chair of Computer Science and is director of the INFOLAB. He is scientific director of the European "Network of Excellence" S-Cube. His research was/is funded by the European Commission, the Australian Research Council, the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, and Departments of Science and Technology in Europe and Australia. He is a golden core member and a distinguished visitor of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Computer Science section.


Alan Sill

Dr. Alan Sill is currently Senior Scientist at the High Performance Computing Center and Adjunct Professor of Physics at Texas Tech University. He serves as Vice President of Standards for the Open Grid Forum and Site Director for the National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Cloud and Autonomic Computing at TTU. He is an internationally recognized expert on advanced scientific computing systems and software, and has played a strong role in many distributed computing, cloud and grid development projects and associated standards efforts. Geoffroy Vallee

Since September 2008, Geoffroy R. Vallee is Research Associate at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), USA, in the Computer Science Research Group, USA. His research interest is based on systems for high-performance computing, including run-time system, system resilience, operating systems, and system-level virtualization.
He is the chair and main developer of the OSCAR project (http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/), designed and developed the OSCAR-V software (http://www.csm.ornl.gov/srt/oscarv/) and v2m software (http://www.csm.ornl.gov/srt/v2m/).
He is also technical coordinator for the development of a scalable and fault-tolerant process management infrastructure (STCI project).
